How to Fight Against Disputed Customer Transactions with Stripe Radar

If you’ve ever accepted payments online, you know disputes can happen. A customer buys something, later claims the charge was fraudulent, and suddenly you’re caught in the middle of a fight with their bank.
I’ve dealt with this many times in my consulting firm. Clients purchased services like the Masterclass or Momentum membership, then disputed the charge. Even though I submitted proof of payment, receipts, and refund/dispute policies, I still lost.
👉 On one account, I lost nearly $17,000 in disputes.
👉 On another, over $2,900 in disputes.
The danger wasn’t just the lost revenue.
Too many disputes can cause Stripe to hold your payouts, and when that happens, your business can become ineligible for Stripe Capital funding.
That’s when I realized I needed to fight back—and I turned to Stripe Radar.
What is Stripe Radar?
Stripe Radar is a fraud prevention tool built directly into Stripe. It uses AI and machine learning, powered by billions of data points, to evaluate every payment in real time.
Here’s what it does:
Screens all payment attempts (approved, declined, blocked, or flagged).
Tracks key risk factors like name, IP address, email, and location.
Supports multiple payment methods:
💳 Cards
📱 Wallets (if linked to a card)
🏦 ACH Direct Debit
💶 SEPA Direct Debit

Why I Decided to Pay for It
Radar costs 5¢ per screened transaction. Some people might see that as an unnecessary expense—but for me, it was simple math:
💡 5 cents is nothing compared to losing thousands of dollars in disputes.
Radar became an investment in protecting my firm, my cash flow, and my eligibility for funding.

Proof: My Lost Disputes
I don’t just talk about this—I’ve lived it. Below are real screenshots from two of my Stripe accounts showing the disputes I lost.
On one account: nearly $17,000 lost in disputes.
On another: over $2,900 lost in disputes.

This is why I say 5¢ is worth every penny. Without Radar, I had no line of defense.
How It Works in Real Life
When a suspicious payment comes through, Radar generates Risk Insights, such as:
If the IP address doesn’t match the billing location.
If customer details are missing or incomplete.
Whether billing and shipping addresses are unusually far apart.
These insights allow me to spot red flags early and take action before disputes escalate.

Stripe Alerts You Before It’s Too Late
Radar also sends fraud alert emails, giving you the chance to cancel the payment, issue a refund, and avoid the $15 dispute fee.

The Playbook When a Fraud Alert Hits
When Radar flags a payment, here’s the exact process my team and I follow:
Cancel the subscription or transaction.
Refund the most recent payment.
Remove the client from our system.
Send a professional email explaining the cancellation and refund.

This protects my business and keeps me in good standing with Stripe.
Why This Matters for Business Owners
Fraudulent disputes don’t just hurt your bottom line—they can damage your ability to operate and grow. Stripe Radar has saved me from losses and given me peace of mind knowing that my business is protected.
